Puppy Care

When you first take your puppy home, have the puppy settle down and have the puppy get used to the new environment and people. For a couple of days it’s best to not touch the puppy too much, but just allow the puppy to get accustomed to you and the new environment. Give the puppy some space. The puppy needs lots of rest and sleep.
Try not to take the puppy for car rides, and just let puppy adjust to the new environment. Car rides and going to new places are stressful events, so you want to avoid them especially when they are young and delicate. Just keep the puppy at home for awhile until the puppy is a little older.
Usually puppies and dogs like to be in closed, and not wide open spaces to feel safe and secure. They like to be squished into a small space or in an enclosed area. So, when you first take your puppy home, it might be a good idea to provide him/her with a space that makes the puppy feel safe and secure, since they are becoming accustomed to unfamiliar places and people.
When it gets cold, keep the puppy warm. You can use heaters, electric pads, and blankets to keep the puppy warm. And when it gets too hot, keep the puppy cool by keeping his environment cool with air conditioner and or fans, and a cool area for the puppy to sit and lie down.
The main course meals for our puppies are given twice daily. They are given once in the morning and once in the evening, just before sunset. We mix the puppy food with real skinless chicken meat that was boiled without any seasoning. It might be a good idea to follow the same routine for food for at least a couple of weeks when you first take the puppy home. You can add a little bit of chicken broth to the mix so that the food would be more tasty and easy to eat. Also, you can drizzle Dyne, a tasty high calorie supplement that dogs and puppies love, to make the food even more tastier.
We also give a hard boiled egg in the morning. You can break the egg apart with knife or a fork, and give it to the puppy.

Make sure the puppy is eating well, and there is always food and water available. For picky eaters and for puppies that are going through an adjustment period in your new home and do not seem to be eating much, you can try hand feeding the food by holding the food in your hand, and offering it to the puppy.
Make sure the stool is firm and not watery. It’s especially important during the young age of the puppy that you should watch out for any signs of loose, watery stool, or diarrhea, and to make sure to keep their stool firm. Bene-Bac Plus helps, but Kaolin Pectin seems to work very well for diarrhea and vomiting.
Give pea sized amounts of Bene-Bac Plus probiotic and Tomlyn Nutritional Gel at least once a day every day. You will be given these two to take home with you. You can find this on Chewy, Petco.com, or Amazon when it runs out.
You must be careful when giving vaccines and dewormers to your puppies. Make sure the puppy is healthy and well before and after they are given these meds. It would be when they are much older that they would be stronger, and to be able to handle these meds better. So, waiting until they are much older would be preferable, since risks associated with giving these meds early as a preventative might be higher than the benefits they may provide. It’s especially important for the smaller sized ones, since they are more delicate, and require extra attention and care. On the day of giving vaccines, dewormers and also antibiotics, give the probiotic paste once in the morning and at night, and also give it the next day. By the time the puppy is picked up, the puppy already would have had 3 separate shots. It’s after the puppy is with you in your new home that is when the immunity passed on from mother’s milk and the protection received would have faded, and so you would have to be more careful during this time.
All in all, just make sure the puppy is eating well, pooping well, and sleeping well.
